Season 1 Episode 3. Five key LinkedIn profile tips
Welcome to the third episode of the Winbusinessin podcast. This week’s subject is the most important starting point with LinkedIn…your profile.
Show Notes
Useful links related to each tip;
- Profile Photo:
- The Power of your profile photo by John ‘The Headshot guy’ Cassidy. I will be interviewing John for episode 5
- How to put a red border around your profile picture. Mr LinkedIn’s step by step guide. See how a border stands out (pic below)?
- Headline. You have 120 characters in which to clearly explain what you offer the reader, including your most important keywords and possibly your name. You can use this keyword tool to help you decide which are your most important words or phrases. The example below is a more effective headline than the standard job title and company.
- Background image. As opposed to the profile picture, this won’t help to bring attention to your profile but it will create a much better first impression when someone clicks through to view your profile. Below are some examples of good background images.
- Summary. This is a 2000 character, free text entry field allowing you the opportunity to introduce yourself in a credible, authentic way. I believe it is really important to explain who you are, what you do and most importantly why you do what you do. It is your ‘why’ that most people will find interesting.
- Media. Consider including media at the bottom of your summary and experience sections. You can include files straight from your computer if they are less than 100mb such as a pdf document (case study) or if the document is a video or presentation you would need to use a share link having loaded the document into other sites such as YouTube, Vimeo or Wistea for video and Slideshare for presentations. I made a short video explaining how to add a presentation here
Thank you so much for listening, I really value your support and interest.
As always I would welcome your feedback and questions. If you want to be on the show you can leave a comment by voicemail (right hand side of this page) or email me at info@winbusinessin.com.

It can be difficult to get noticed in iTunes and one thing that can really make a difference is reviews. If you enjoy the show please take a minute to write an honest review in iTunes, it would be most appreciated.
If you are not sure how to write an iTunes review I have made a couple of videos on how it can be done on desktop or mobile
Until next time….
