Season 1 Episode 6. Your LinkedIn Headline
Apologies for missing last weeks episode. The London Launch LinkedIn serial is still a work in progress and I was unable to get in contact with anyone to update the story. I have since spoken to Will and he has been very distracted with another project. He also told me that Sarah has decided to concentrate on a different role close to her home so her business development activities have finished.
So where does that leave us?
I still want to continue following the London launch story but I think it is wise to abandon the bi-weekly schedule and just run episodes where there is something to report on. I’m convinced the format of a serial type story (such as the Start-up podcast) will prove to be an interesting and engaging way to better understand LinkedIn so I will continue to record updates from time to time.

In this weeks show I want to concentrate on the most important text field in your profile – Your Professional Headline.
What impression are you giving with your headline? Is it clear what you offer the reader?
A headline is restricted to 120 characters (inc spaces) and should contain the following (in order of importance);
Informative
This is similar to your elevator pitch and by far the most important part of your headline. It must have clarity of message, what is the main service/product/solution that you are offering me?
Optimised
The headline is the second most keyword sensitive field in your profile (the name fields are the most but LinkedIn state that you should not put keywords there). What are your 10 most important keywords/phrases? Can you get 3-5 in your headline. A useful tool to help you define your keywords is keywordtool.io
Named
Not essential but putting your name in your headline may help people outside of your network see your full profile.
It is wise to create your headline in a word processing programme before copy and pasting it into LinkedIn, this way you can play around with it, spell check it and count the characters before it goes into your profile.
Examples of great headlines;
Rob Brown
Tim Reid
Why not have a go and amend your headline. When you are done post a link to your profile in the comments section below and I will give you my feedback.
As always I would welcome your feedback and questions. If you want to be on the show you can leave a comment by voicemail (right hand side of this page) or email me at info@winbusinessin.com.
Help me to promote the podcast
It can be difficult to get noticed in iTunes and one thing that can really make a difference is reviews. If you enjoy the show please take a minute to write an honest review in iTunes, it would be most appreciated.
If you are not sure how to write an iTunes review I have made a couple of videos on how it can be done on desktop or mobile
Until next time….

I do love your honesty here – oops I didn’t quite get this right, such a real human being. Okay I’ve just updated my headline what do you think?
Still not quite got the hang of the show notes. Rosie
Spot on, great headline!
