Season 1 episode 8. LinkedIn profile summary with Jennifer Holloway
This week we return to LinkedIn profiles and the third most important section – your summary.
The summary is the best place to really showcase your personal brand so I thought I would have a chat with my good friend Jennifer Hollloway who is an expert on personal branding and the author of the excellent book ‘Personal branding for Brits’
The summary section is a free text entry field of 2000 characters and is your chance to introduce yourself to the reader in an authentic way.
Jennifer recommends you should aim to achieve three things in a good summary;
- Credibility
- Personal values (your why)
- A relationship hook – something about you other will be able to relate to.
Jennifer mentions Russell Dalgleish and his excellent summary below;
Note how Russell has his contact details right at the top of his summary, this is because the mobile app only (initially) shows the first few lines of the summary.
Jennifer also mentions Alan Halsall, the chairman of Silvercross prams as another excellent example of an authentic and interesting summary.

I’ve revamped my summary (although it was based on Mark’s recommendation before. I had a look at Jennifer’s and also Russell’s (I’ve met him too, I just asked him how tall he was – Granny research). So I’m hoping my summary meets with approval from both of you. the podcasts are really useful, although I tend to listen in the car so implementing the advice can be delayed somewhat. looking good Rosie, I like the hook in your summary “crochet little hats for little people” I shall remember that! One small thing, the media in your summary seems to have the font distorted for some reason.
